“Do you know your son can read?”

“Do you know your son can read?”

That was the question that my friend asked me after taking Billy to see JoQueta Handy.

Billy was almost 4 years old then and had already had 3,000 hours of ABA therapy when he started speech therapy with JoQueta.   He was seeing JoQueta for speech and sensory for a little over 6 months, 1 to 2 times a week.  She was always so kind and respectful of Billy and her belief that Billy was more than a diagnosis immediately gave hope but when my friend said that Billy could read I did not believe her.  So I went to the next appointment and I watched in amazement has my son constructed a sentence with the right words.  This changed my entire perspective of my son’s ability and we went to work.  What now has become the COB method was our marker for all interaction with Billy.

For the past 6 years we have collaborated with JoQueta to determine the best methods, environment, and goals for our son.  He is a confident child and despite the difficulties he experience in speaking can get his needs and desires ( not all of them J) met.  He is able to transition peacefully, experience joy and be challenged like all children.  I have seen Billy teach so many people including myself that I now know he is exactly the child I was suppose to have and he will be exactly as God intends for him to be.

Because of the JoQueta Handy’s direction Billy’s anxiety is monitored allowing him to have experiences as all children should have.  She continues to push us to keep up with him!    I recommend her to everyone I meet with a child who needs that extra care and have seen her work with other children produce similar results.  We need to change the way we look at our children.
